We Reached 100 Births! A Celebration of Families, Strength, and Doula Support in Massachusetts

Doula Support in Massachusetts

I still remember the first time I “supported” a birth.

It was my mom’s labor with my little sister. I was just a kid, sitting in that room, holding her hand, fetching water, trying to be brave while she did the hardest, most miraculous thing. In that moment, I didn’t know the word “doula.” I didn’t know that what I was doing, just being present, listening, caring, would one day become my calling.

Fast forward, here I am, having supported 100 births. One hundred families. One hundred first cries, first embraces, first moments of “you’re here.” One hundred journeys where I got to witness courage, vulnerability, and love in its rawest form.

Each birth has been its own story, its own miracle. Some were calm and quiet. Others were loud and chaotic. Some were exactly what the parents imagined, and some were full of twists they never expected. And through it all, I got to witness something bigger than any birth plan, bigger than any pain or joy. The raw, unfiltered love that parents carry, and the courage it takes to welcome life into the world.

Here are a few moments that have stayed with me along the way:

  • The silent strength: A mom who whispered “I can’t” every few minutes, yet pushed through hours of labor, finally holding her baby in disbelief.

  • Tears of joy: A dad crying quietly as he held his newborn for the first time, overwhelmed with love and relief.

  • Unexpected laughter: Parents laughing through exhaustion because their baby smiled mid-diaper change.

  • Healing moments: Moms telling me they finally felt proud of their bodies after a birth that didn’t go as planned.

  • Small but meaningful gestures: Making a bottle, tidying the nursery, or holding the baby while a parent naps — little acts that became lifelines.

Supporting these 100 families hasn’t just been about holding space for labor or helping with newborn care. It’s been about helping parents feel seen, heard, and valued in a world that often rushes them through the most important moments of their lives. It’s about creating the environment where they can rest, cry, laugh, and simply be themselves while learning this new role.

Why this milestone matters

Reaching 100 births is not just a number. It’s a testament to the families who trusted me, the community that supported this journey, and the mission I set out to live every day: helping parents have the birthing and postpartum experience they truly deserve. It’s a reminder that every tiny touch, every whispered word of encouragement, every nap we’ve helped a parent catch, matters.

Gratitude for the journey

To the 100 families I’ve served, thank you:

  • For letting me witness your first cries, first smiles, first moments together.

  • For trusting me with your fears, your tears, and your triumphs.

  • For letting me celebrate with you when everything went beautifully and for holding space when it didn’t.

Here’s to the next 100 births, to the families we’ve yet to meet, and to continuing to make space for parents to feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
