First Outreach in South Africa
In October 2024, Haven Place Doulas embarked on a heartfelt mission to Johannesburg, South Africa to distribute approximately 300 pregnancy bags filled with essentials like diapers, baby wipes, breast pads, etc. to underserved families. This initiative was a collaborative effort of a team of committed individuals who helped with collecting, packing, transporting, and distributing the items in the community.
Through meaningful interactions with families, medical staff, local community residents, etc., Haven Place Doulas gained a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by disadvantaged families and the immense need for maternal support in the community.
The visit led to a partnership with Blissful Births, a local doula agency, and an unexpected partnership with a local orphanage where some toys were bought locally and given to staff to help support over 250 children. This community outreach reaffirmed our commitment to creating lasting change and inspired plans for future efforts to support South African families in need.

Supporting a Birth in South Africa
I had the extraordinary opportunity to travel to South Africa, where I was able to assist a mother during her labor and birth. This experience allowed me to combine my passion for birth work with the unique and enriching cultural context of South Africa.
While traveling, I had the privilege of supporting a family through one of the most transformative experiences of their lives. Being there in that moment, offering comfort and guidance, reminded me why I do what I do. The experience also reinforced the universal need for compassionate and accessible maternal support, no matter where you are in the world. It was an unforgettable experience that deepened my connection to both birth work and the power of community across borders.
